How a Steady Stride block works

STEP 1

Book a weekly slot

For example, Wednesdays at 9am for 12 weeks.

STEP 2

Residents assessed

Each resident is assessed individually before their first class.

STEP 3

Weekly classes

1-hour strength and balance sessions, sitting and standing, in a small closed group of up to 12.

STEP 4

Reassessment and report

Each resident is reassessed at the end of the course, and you receive a progress report.

Who the classes are for

Older adults with a history of falls who are able to stand and walk. Only people the physiotherapist has assessed beforehand take part, so each small, closed group is planned around the people in it.

Residents who cannot stand can be offered individual physiotherapy instead, through a Clinic Day.

What we measure

Standard tests of strength, balance and walking at the start and end of the course, so you can see how each resident has progressed.

What we need from you

A quiet room with sturdy chairs, and one member of staff for up to two hours: helping set up the room, bringing residents to and from the class, staying for the session, and putting the room back afterwards.
