Falls prevention physiotherapy at home in Haringey
If you or someone you care about has had a fall, feels unsteady on their feet, or is home after a hip operation, we come to you. A Chartered Physiotherapist, registered with the HCPC, visits older adults at home across Haringey, from the hills of Muswell Hill and Highgate down to Wood Green, Harringay and Tottenham. We work on strength, balance and stamina to help you get back to the places you love locally. Every programme starts with a falls risk assessment at home.
"Haringey is hilly. A lot of the people I see want to get back up the hill to the Broadway, along Green Lanes to their favourite restaurant, or round Ally Pally with the family. That's what we work towards." Daniel Arias Ruiz, Chartered Physiotherapist
Homes in Haringey
Haringey homes are a real mix: Victorian terraces with steep stairs and a step down to the garden, conversions where the front door is up a flight of stairs, and mansion blocks and estates where the lift is not always working. With a physiotherapist who comes to your home, we look at your actual home: the stairs, the bathroom, the front step, the route to the toilet at night. Then we practise the things that are hard for you, where you need to do them, at a pace that is safe for you.
Where we visit in Haringey
We offer physiotherapy home visits across the borough, including Muswell Hill, Crouch End, Highgate, Hornsey, Alexandra Palace, Wood Green, Bounds Green, Harringay, Finsbury Park, Stroud Green, Seven Sisters, Tottenham and Bruce Grove. That covers postcodes N4, N6, N8, N10, N15, N17 and N22, and parts of N2 and N11. There is no travel charge anywhere in London.
Coming home from hospital
Many Haringey residents are treated at the Whittington Hospital or North Middlesex University Hospital, and are then supported by NHS community teams. SteadyMotion is an independent private service, separate from the NHS, so we can work alongside your NHS care, while you wait for it, or after it ends. Coming home after a fall, a broken hip or a hip or knee replacement can feel daunting, especially with stairs, so we work on getting in and out of bed, on and off the toilet, up and down the stairs, and safely out of the front door. Read more in our guide to home physiotherapy for older adults.
Getting out and about again
We build sessions around the places you want to get back to: dinner at a favourite restaurant on Green Lanes or the shops along Harringay's Ladder, The Mall Wood Green and Wood Green High Road, Muswell Hill Broadway and Crouch End Broadway, or a walk round Alexandra Palace and its park, Finsbury Park, Highgate Wood, Queen's Wood or along the Parkland Walk. Haringey is hilly, so we practise the slopes as well as the walk to your nearest station or bus stop, community centre or family, step by step, on the routes you actually use.
What a programme can look like
These are examples, not real clients. Every programme is planned around the person and what they want to get back to.
Example: dinner on Green Lanes. Starting point: someone home after a hip replacement who wants to walk to a favourite restaurant on Green Lanes for a family meal. What we work on: the front step, the kerbs and the walk itself, building up the distance each week, with places to sit and rest on the way. The goal: a family meal out again.
Example: back to The Mall Wood Green. Starting point: someone who had a fall at home and wants to get to the shops in Wood Green on their own again. What we work on: balance and leg strength, then the bus, the escalator or lift, and carrying a light bag. The goal: shopping independently again.
Example: walks in Finsbury Park. Starting point: a couple who want to keep up their walks in the park and the trips to the station and the supermarket. What we work on: a balance and strength programme they can do together, and practising the routes they use. The goal: staying active together.
Example: round Ally Pally. Starting point: someone who has become generally unsteady and now avoids the slopes up to Alexandra Palace. What we work on: leg strength and stamina for hills, balance on the way back down, and planned rests on the benches. The goal: a walk round Ally Pally with the family.
Other areas we visit
We also visit older adults at home in nearby Barnet, Enfield, Waltham Forest, Hackney, Islington and Camden, and across the rest of London, with no travel charge.
